It’s that time again! Time to shake it up and shake it out! We’ve been heavy into the music of our everyday lives and music around the world but what are the summer jams that we’ve been the most excited about? Well, the usual suspects Taylor, Katy and Carly showed up to give us some great dance beats (Rihanna, however, continues to ignore my pleas) and some new faces are making their way into the places in our hearts that need a little groovin’. Check out our list below!
Katy Perry – Never Really Over
A return to introspective, sing to the heavens, Katy Perry. And I am 100% here for it! This song has a hopeful glee about it that puts a smile on your face while showing off Perry’s super impressive range. If you can sing along to the mile a minute chorus you have all of my respect.
Lizzo – Juice
Lizzo has burst on to the scene in the last few months and, frankly, the world is a better place for it. She’s a skilled rapper, singer and flutist! Her songs are heartfelt, soulful, bop heavy and all about loving who you are.
Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber – I Don’t Care
Alright, guys, I am, as the kids say, a stan for Justin Bieber. I can still dance a routine my friend and I made up to “Eenie Meanie” when we were far out of the age group that song was meant for. Ed Sheeran adds a lightness to this song and the entire album, and the two voices have a beautiful harmony when mixed together. The added “oh-oh-oh-oh” is a perfect hook for bopping your head along.
Lil’ Nas X (Feat. Billy Ray Cyrus) – Old Town Road
After getting shut out of country radio, Lil’ Nas X enlisted the help of country legend Billy Ray Cyrus and the results are fantastic! This song has a great beat and a hook that cannot be denied and the music video is basically just two musicians having the time of their lives. More country music and hip-hop crossovers, please!
Bruce Springsteen – Hello Sunshine
Okay, not your typical summer bop but I have a love for The Boss that will not be denied. This song, which has some Gordon Lightfoot style notes, is a perfect song for driving home from a long day at the beach or at a BBQ. The violins and slide guitar makes me wish I had a porch swing where I could watch the sunset while drinking iced tea.
Notable Shoutouts:
Jonas Brothers – Sucker
Taylor Swift (Feat. Brendon Urie) – ME!
BTS (Feat. Halsey) – Boy With Luv
