After 5 years of infertility and many failed medicines and treatments, my husband and I were finally blessed with our miracle baby on October 1, 2020. She is better than we could have asked or prayed for. When she was a month old we took her to a check-up for her bilirubin numbers and while we were there the pediatrician noticed a heart murmur. He sent us for an echocardiogram the next day. We then were referred to a cardiologist. As the cardiologist looked at the echo he saw a moderate ASD and VSD but decided we would wait a month and come back for another echo. On December 22, we had her second echo. He realized that the VSD was much larger than we had thought which was causing our sweet girl to not gain weight and struggle when eating. He started us on some medicine on December 24 and by December 27, we were in the hospital for dehydration. They started her on new medicine and had us come back for another weight check a week later. She still had not gained weight in almost 6 weeks and was not making any progress. We found out then that surgery was inevitable and would be sooner rather than later. We had her surgery on Tuesday, January 19th. As they were doing her post-op echo, they saw another VSD that was as large as the one they fixed. They had to go back in and fix it, as well. The picture I am attaching is the before and after surgery! In just 4 days, she already has more energy and is eating so much better! She was already perfect to us but now she has a perfect heart, too!
